Mothering the Mother

Motherwort is a nervine (nervous system support - which is why she is in the CTFD line) but so much more. She also supports the heart and is an amazing ally for women’s reproductive health throughout the life cycle. When I think of motherwort, I think of getting a hug and a warm blanket wrapped around my shoulders by a loving female elder.

It’s hard to know where to start with motherwort because she excels in so many uses throughout a woman’s life. She is a uterine tonic and can help with PMS symptoms and cramps but really shines in the postpartum time- from relieving afterpains immediately following childbirth to soothing the nerves of a frazzled under-slept new mom.

Motherwort is very bitter and I used to have to have a glass of water as a chaser handy which is why I made an Elixir with honey so now she can be taken straight from the bottle as needed (without diluting or making icky face!) When you feel like you need a hug from your nurturing herbal mother look to her for support.
